State Dumar blocked YouTube channel for “violation of rights and freedoms”

State Duma speaker Vacheslav Volodin says the White House wants American IT companies that own social media networks to join digital against Russia.

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin posted in a telegram on Saturday that YouTube’s decision to block Russia’s State Duma (lower house of parliament) channel confirms US involvement in human rights abuses.

“This is another proof of Washington’s violation of rights and freedoms,” he said.

According to Volodymyr, the United States wants American IT companies, which own the social media network, to join its information war against Russia.

“Washington is ignoring all principles of democracy to ensure that all platforms, including YouTube, present only the US position. The United States wants a monopoly on information, but we can’t do that, “he said.

Following the channel’s ban, Roscommonador wrote a letter to Google, the YouTube operator, requesting that the ban be lifted from the Russian parliament’s official YouTube channel, the State Duma.

“Google has blocked Duma TV’s YouTube channel. It had over 145,000 subscribers and our videos received over 100 million views in total, “the chamber said in a statement on Saturday.

The Duma TV channel, which broadcasts the full session and broadcasts exclusive comments from deputies, was previously exempt from restrictions imposed by Russian official agencies and American platform companies on media broadcasts in retaliation for the Ukraine invasion.

Duma authorities, however, indicated that they were “ready for this situation” and announced that they would continue broadcasting on Russian platforms such as Rutube, Vikontakte or Telegram Messaging Channel, according to notes collected by the TASS agency.
