In Rubijn, Russian troops accidentally shot themselves in the leg in Luhansk when their attempt to attack a tanker of nitric acid failed.
After the missile hit the tanker, horrific footage showed a billowing cloud of smoke and nitric acid reddening the sky over Rubijn in eastern Ukraine. When nitric acid is inhaled or comes in contact with the skin, it is extremely dangerous. Serhi Haidai, head of the Luhansk regional military administration, advised residents to wear “gas masks” to protect themselves from gas.
Smoke can induce bronchitis, confusion and pulmonary edema in severe cases of inhalation.
“Prepare the protective mask by soaking it in soda solution,” Mr Haidai said in a telegram statement.
“When applied to the surface of the eye, nitric acid causes severe damage with extensive necrosis of the cornea and conjunctiva, resulting in impaired vision.
“First aid: If nitric acid gets into the eyes, rinse under running water for 10-30 minutes. If it gets on the skin, wash the affected area with water, add baking soda and soap.”

Local officials later admitted that there was no danger to the Ukrainians’ lives, blaming the Russians for failing to attack Luhansk’s defense forces.
In a Facebook post, they added: “There is no threat to the lives of the population.
“The Russians do not know how to fight – they do not know which way the wind is blowing.
“Clouds spread to their positions near Kudryashivka and Vvervivka.”
Four houses, a warehouse and sports infrastructure were destroyed in heavy fires on Saturday in Ruby, Severodonetsk, Lysichansk, Kreminna and Zolo.
Officials said: “Four people were injured, four were rescued from the rubble and shells, including one child.”
This week’s nitric acid tanker attack was the second of its kind in the Luhansk region.
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced in March that the Luhansk People’s Republic had taken control of Ruby.
Ukrainian officials, meanwhile, say Russian troops are still trying to seize the city.
Over the weekend, multiple Russian bombings were carried out against the Luhansk and Dnipropetrovsk districts, with a Ukrainian official saying the attack completely destroyed an airport.
Valentin Reznichenko, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, said rescue workers were passing through an injured infrastructure site in the town of Jvonetsky, adding that more information about the victims would be released later.
The Russian Defense Ministry added: “Overnight high-precision missiles destroyed the bases and headquarters of the nationalist Dnipropetrovsk Battalion in Jvonetsky, which has recently received reinforcements from foreign mercenaries.”
