The remediation has failed

The immunocompromised woman was treated with antibody retoximab for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After that, according to a team from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, he was no longer able to produce antibodies against the Covid-19 infection. 148 days later, he was treated with remediation. For ten days instead of the usual five. There was no success.

Not likely to spread

The reason for the weakening of remediation is the mutation of the virus: E802. It was first detected in the patient on the 7th day of treatment with remediation. A few days later, it took precedence over other forms. E802 modifies RNA polymerase in such a way that it can only be slightly inhibited by remediation.

After laboratory research in the journal “Plus Pathogens”, researchers have already described the possibility in 2021.

Mutations simply do not guarantee that the remediation becomes ineffective. It also reduces the risk of Sars-CoV-2 infection. Accordingly, the virus will not be able to assert itself under normal circumstances. Only if there is a chance of mutation with E802, if it prevents replication of other forms of remediation, such as in a 70-year-old person. So it cannot be assumed that these will spread.

Ct means “bicycle threshold”. The values ​​thus designated indicate how many cycles a PCR sample would have to go through to heat and cool before identifying a relevant amount of virus genetic material. If the value is low – that is, the genetic material can be detected after a short time – the viral load is higher and the patient is more contagious than the sample shows higher CT values. With SARS-CoV-2, a CT value greater than 30 means the infection is usually low to negligible.
